Barça were unable to go through to the quarterfinal of the Copa del Rey after losing to Betis on penalties during this lively last 16 match. The match was played in Pabellón San Pablo, with both side playing their part in a tense match.
Rollercoaster first half
After joining the competition at the last 16 stage due to European involvement, Jesús Velasco's took an early lead through the returning Sergio Lozano but soon saw that it wasn't going to be an easy game.
Betis then gained control of the game and even missed a penalty - saved by Miquel Feixas. Barça hit back through Adolfo who hit a second on the counter attack. Betis continued to press, however, winning another penalty that Jackson scored this time.
Flat second half
Barça had a slight lead at the break but Betis definitely wanted to make a game of it. Povill had the chance for a third for Barça before the Andalusians levelled up the match through a long shot from Bocao. The score remained the same for the final 20 minutes of normal time.
Both keepers made great saves in the first period of 3 minutes of extra time to keep the score at 2-2. With penalties looming, ex-Barça Lin lit the touch paper in the Pabellón San Pablo, scoring into an empty net after a turnover. All seemed lost, but a sixth foul for Betis led to Ferrao scoring to take the game to penalties!
Barça went ahead twice but ultimately lost 7-6, going out of the Copa del Rey in the first round they played.
