The Barça Women football team flew to London this morning for the UEFA Women’s Champions League matchday four fixture, which will see them take on Chelsea FC Women at Stamford Bridge (kickoff 9.00pm CET 20 November). Looking beyond the mouthwatering fixture at a famous stadium, the journey itself gave Pere Romeu's side a real boost, as they travelled on an Airbus A320 plane with a new design, once again featuring the 'Dream, Play, Fly' slogan on the fuselage, plus photos of the players Aitana Bonmatí, Alexia Putellas, Caroline Graham, Claudia Pina, Esmee Brugts, Ewa Pajor, Patri Guijarro and Salma Paralluelo from the blaugrana squad.
The new design follows the previous iteration, taking inspiration from the journeys taken by the women's first team players, from dreaming about playing when they were little through to fulfilling their goal of playing professionally after much effort and perseverance, to flying high and becoming figureheads for future generations.
The interior of the plane features customised head rests on the seats and luggage compartments, in the blue and maroon colours and with the slogan 'Dream, Play, Fly'. The lavatory mirror also includes a message that calls out to passengers with the phrase 'Dreamers look like you'.
The partnership between FC Barcelona and Vueling has become a benchmark in the world of sport and aviation because of the innovation, social commitment and incredible reach. The agreement saw FC Barcelona become the first women's football team in Europe to have their image included on a plane used for scheduled flights.
In the year and a half since the agreement was signed, the new Airbus A320 plane customised with the image of the players has transported them to their European and domestic commitments. It has also carried around 370,000 people and been to around 30 countries in Europe and North Africa, making over 2,400 flights. As such, it has helped raise awareness about women's sport, one of the aims of this partnership.
Statement by Marc Bruix, FC Barcelona Global Director of Partnerships
"Having a plane in the blaugrana colours featuring the players from our women's football first team is source of real pride. This initiative is another example of how we continue to push the boundaries and reach new domains, taking our values, identity and talent of our sportswomen far and wide".
Statement by Sandra Hors, Chief Corporate Affairs, Brand and Sustainability Officer at Vueling
“We began this shared journey with the FC Barcelona women's football first team to raise awareness about women's sport and help boost women's leadership on and off the pitch a year and a half ago. This plane is a symbol we share with Barça: roots in Barcelona, team spirit, ambition, and the ability to inspire. Every flight is an opportunity for these values to reach thousands of people in Europe and reinforce the connection between our project and the city in which it was born”.
