FC Barcelona v Atlético Madrid: Something's gotta give

The league's top home offense faces the top road defence on Wednesday night at Camp Nou

FC Barcelona’s meetings with Atlético Madrid rarely disappoint, and Wednesday’s clash is expected to be another thriller as the best home attack meets the best away defence.

Both teams go into the Camp Nou meeting in good form. Luis Enrique have bounced back from the defeat against Alavés with two victories against Celtic and Leganés, in which they have scored eleven goals and let in just one.

Atlético, on the other hand, have won three matches in seven days, beating Celta Vigo (4-0) and Sporting Gijon (5-0) in the league, either side of win in the Champions League at PSV.

Barça have slammed home 17 goals in four home matches so far this season; three in the Super Cup against Sevilla, six against Betis on the opening day of the league, one in the defeat against Alavés and seven against Celtic, giving Luis Enrique’s men an average of 4.25 goals per game.

Atletico meanwhile are the defensive masters, keeping clean sheets on the road against Leganés (0-0) and in Vigo (4-0) while their aforementioned away win at PSV in Europe was 1-0.

So, as the best attack meets the best defence, something has to give when the two contrasting sides go head-to-head on Wednesday.
