Gerard Piqué: The team showed their flexibility

The central defender, along with Rafinha and Ter Stegen, spoke after the win against Leganés

FC Barcelona put in a comprehensive display against Leganés on Saturday, winning 5-1 in an unfamiliar system used by Luis Enrique.

The manager set up his side with three central defenders at Butarque with the intension of making attacking transitions quicker and more comfortable.

One of those three was Gerard Piqué who spoke in the mixed zone after the game. The defender explained that the system leaves the team “very exposed but at the same time benefits the attacking play of the team”.

Pique also said that “we had many one on ones against a “very attacking” Leganés team while also adding that “it is more fun because you participate a lot more”.

Various other players also gave their thoughts after the game, including Rafinha, who scored a fine goal from outside the area:

Rafinha

“Football is tough, we are prepared to face anything.”

“They offered us space which, with three players we have up front, goals are a guarantee."

Piqué

“We set out a very attacking game. The three that we have up front took full advantage of the spaces.”

“It is important to bounce back from a defeat as quickly as possible with victories as we did against Celtic and today.”

“The team can adapt to different systems. We have very talented players who can adapt to what the coach asks all the time depending on who we are facing.”

Ter Stegen

“We are very content with the win. We wanted to score to relax.”

“With this system we played very well. We managed to score five times and win the game.”
