The FC Barcelona captain has a decade and a half of Clásico experience behind him, and shares his thoughts ahead of the latest episode in the most dramatic saga in world football

“A Clásico is like no other game. It’s different. Everything means so much more. We treat it like something very special.

“You try to treat these games are normally as possible” he says. “But they’re unlike anything else. You can feel it among the people in the street. Until you experience it for yourself, you don’t realise quite how different it is. The atmosphere, the game, the supporters … you realise just how big it is.”

So what’s his favourite memory from clashes with Real Madrid? “It’s the games I experienced most directly, like the 6-2 win” he replies.

On the latest meeting, the midfielder simply promises that “we’ll be hoping to take another step forward in our quest to win the league title. We’ll be looking to work hard, dominate the possession and take our chances.”

“Things are going well for us so far this season. We’re motivated by the challenge of continuing to improve for all that what we have ahead.”

On a more personal note, he ends by saying that “I just wish for health, to be fortunate with injuries and for the team to win as many trophies as possible.”
