Everything has a beginning and an end. In FC Barcelona’s case, two of the club’s ongoing streaks came to an end this Wednesday with the team’s 1-0 defeat at Mendizorroza. Although the loss carried little significance for the already-crowned champions, it brought an end to a run of 11 consecutive La Liga victories and their streak of 55 straight league matches scoring at least one goal, while also signifying that it will no longer be possible to reach the golden target of 100 points.

Best under Flick

Hansi Flick’s side had been enjoying their best winning streak since the German coach took charge, with eleven consecutive victories. Despite these impressive numbers, Flick was unable to round it off with a twelfth win, which would have allowed him to equal the streak once achieved by Luis Enrique (12). Pep Guardiola’s run of 16 consecutive league victories remains the all-time club record in La Liga.

Eight short of the record

In addition, Barça had been showing remarkable consistency in front of goal. They had scored in 55 consecutive La Liga matches, surpassing the streaks achieved under Ernesto Valverde (37) and Juan José Nogués (36).

They finished just eight matches short of the all-time La Liga scoring record, but the streak that lasted until this Wednesday will still be remembered for a long time.
