Busy September in La Liga and Champions League

There are no games for a fortnight but the rest of the month id heavily packed with fixtures at home and abroad

September is upon us, although due to the international break there are no games for FC Barcelona until the 14th. But after that there will be five games before the month is out, four in the league and the first challenge in the Champions League!

First home fixture

After playing their first three fixtures away from home, winning two and drawing the other, Barça will be returning from the international break ready for their first home game of the season, when the opposition will be Valencia. That's a 9pm CEST start on Sunday 14 September.

European campaign begins

The Thursday immediately after, the 18th, Barça have their first Champions League, when they'll be travelling up to St James' Park, home of Newcastle United. The side that finished fifth in the Premiership last season are sure to create a fabulous atmosphere on Tyneside, especially as this game marks their long-awaited return to this competition.

Back-to-back league games

Barça will return from Newcastle with three games in a week to prepare for, all in La Liga. On Sunday 21 they have what is never an easy encounter against Getafe. Then they have a midweek fixture, the exact date still unconfirmed, in which they'll be going to Oviedo for the first time in 24 years.

Five in a fortnight

And also on a unconfirmed date the month ends with a weekend game against Real Sociedad. A truly hectic two weeks in which the Catalans will be hoping to amass the maximum points domestically, and get off to the right kind of start in Europe too.
