FC Barcelona and Real Madrid meet this Sunday in a game that could decide La Liga 2024/25. To get you in the mood, here's a round of ten of the most important things you'll need to know ahead of the game.
Flick to match Guardiola?
Barça have dominated Madrid this season, beating them 4-0 at the Bernabeu earlier on the league, 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup Final in Riyadh, and 3-2 at La Cartuja in the Copa del Rey Final. Hansi Flick is looking to make it four out of four against the all-whites. Only one manager has got off to a better start than that. Pep Guardiola won five from 2008 to 2010.
Nightmare for Ancelotti
As manager of AC Milan, PSG and now Real Madrid, the Italian has faced Barça 25 times and has lost 12. No other team has inflicted so many defeats on him.
Three out of three
Barça is the only team that can claim to have beaten Real Madrid three times in the same season in competitive matches. The record is four, which they hold from the 1982/83 campaign, when they met five times, winning four and drawing once.
Lewandowski 100
The Polish striker has scored 99 times since joining the club in the summer of 2022. He needs just one more to become one of the fastest Barça players ever to reach three figures.
Mbappé after history
Chilean striker Iván Zamorano scored a remarkable 37 goals for Real Madrid in the 1992/93 season. In his first season at the club, the French striker would match that number with just one more goal.
Tridents with bite
Barça's front three of Lewandowski (40), Raphinha (32) and Lamine (15) has amassed 87 goals this season across all competitions. That's a fair bit more than the 71 goals netted by Mbappé (36), Vinicius (21) and Rodrygo (14).
Lewandowski likes Madrid
The Pole has played 17 times against Real Madrid for Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and now Barça, and has scored 11 times. Only Leo Messi (26) and Luis Suárez (12) have scored more this century.
Strong attack, weak defence
Barça have an amazing 91 goals in the league, topped only by the 101 that they had at this stage of the 2016/17 campaign. In contrast, Real Madrid have conceded 22 goals in 34 league games thus far, their weakest tally after 34 games since 2018/19.
Four in a row
Real Madrid have won their last four league games, and are hoping to string together a fifth for the first time this season, the first time they would have done that since a 9-match run last year.
Strikers head to head
Lamine Yamal and Mbappé both like to shoot. The former PSG man has had 208 goal attempts across all competitions this season, topping the category, but Lamine is a close second on 197.
