Lewandowski, breaking the deadlock

Lewandowski, breaking the deadlock

The Polish striker has scored the first goal of the game on no less than seven occasions this season

There is nobody quite like Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker proved to be the match-winner once again with his 30th goal of the season enough to bring Barça three valuable points in La Liga. His latest strike came at the Estadi Olímpic on Sunday against Alavés, the only goal of the game coming thanks to an instinctive piece of forward play from the blaugrana man. Lewandowski positioned himself perfectly at the far post to turn home Lamine Yamal's cross.

The goal was a vital one as it allowed Barça to move within three points of second placed Atlético Madrid and four of leaders Real Madrid who suffered a surprise defeat away at Espanyol.

The first

Lewandowski has become an expert in scoring the first goal in matches. Of the 22 games he has started in the league, Lewandowski has scored the first goal of the game on seven occasions, more than any player in the league this season. Furthermore, on six of those seven occasions the blaugranes have taken all three points.

If we look at the top five leagues in Europe, no other player has scored the first goal in a league game on so many occasions. No-one can match Lewandowski's total of seven with a whole host of players, including the likes Bayern Munich's Harry Kane and Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappé just behind on six.

In terms of goals, the Polish striker also leads the pack on 30, with Harry Kane on 26, and Mo Salah of Liverpool and Manchester City's Erling Haaland on 25.

Alavés a favourite

Lewandowski certainly enjoys playing against Alavés, as he has scored four goals in two matches against the Basque club this season, a hat-trick in Mendizorroza and the winner on Sunday in the Estadi Olímpic. The striker has scored seven goals against the team from Vitoria in total as a blaugrana, a figure he has only matched against Barça's next opponents, Valencia.
