FC Barcelona to face UD Barbastro in the Copa del Rey

Xavi Hernández's team to play single leg tie in the last 32 on the weekend of the 6/7 January

FC Barcelona now know their rivals in the last 32 of the Copa del Rey. FC Barcelona will take on UD Barbastro in a single leg tie that will be played away from home on Sunday 7 January at 9pm CET in what will be the team's second game of 2024 after the La Liga clash away at Las Palmas on Thursday 4 January.

First ever meeting

Barbastro play in the fourth tier of the Spanish pyramid, in Group 2 of the Second Federation, one level below Barça Atlètic. They are currently tenth with 18 points from their first 15 games, but things have gone amazingly well for them in the cup. Beating Ponferradina in the first round was quite an achievement for a team from a town of just 16,944 inhabitants in northern Aragon, but they then made history by beating first division opponents Almería.

Their reward is the first ever game against the FC Barcelona senior side, although they have crossed paths with the reserve team before. One of the most memorable clashes was the promotion play-off to the old Division 2A, when Josep Guardiola was managing the B team and they were playing their games at the old Miniestadi. Barça Atlètic ended up winning that battle.

The venue will be the Municipal de Deportes de Barbastro, where all 5,000 are certain to be filled for the visit of the five-time European champions.
