Five years since Iniesta's last goal for Barça

The Spaniard donned the jersey 674 times, scoring 57 goals

Five years ago today on April 21 2018, Barça beat Sevilla 0-5 in the Copa del Rey final at the Civitas Metropolitano stadium. In addition to the trophy win, it was a special game for one of the Club's true legends, Andrés Iniesta.

The Spanish midfielder scored his final goal in the blaugrana jersey that day, after representing Barça for 16 seasons, as well as lifting the Club's 30th Copa del Rey.

Final goal by a magical footballer

Barça were winning 3-0 against Sevilla after a great first half by Ernesto Valverde's side. On 52 minutes, Leo Messi slid through a super pass to Iniesta, who dribbled round the Sevilla goalkeeper David Soria using his trademark "croqueta" move, before scoring the fourth goal into an empty net.

With the Copa del Rey in the bag, Valverde substituted Iniesta for Denis Suárez after 88 minutes, prompting the entire stadium to applaud and sing his name, both the Barça and Sevilla fans showing their admiration for Barça's midfielder.

There was still time for Coutinho to score a penalty to make it 0-5, adding to a brace by Luis Suárez and one from Leo Messi.

The victory saw Barça lift their second trophy of the season after comfortably winning LaLiga, having lost only one game all season, which only happened once the title was mathematically confirmed.

A career to remember

Iniesta played five more games after the cup final, including a Clásico against Real Madrid at the Spotify Camp Nou. The Spanish midfielder didn't add any more to his goal tally, but he did assist Messi in the 5-1 win against Valencia por 5-1. His final game for FC Barcelona was at home to Real Sociedad.

This final appearance for Iniesta in the Barça jersey culminated 16 seasons and 674 games, during which he scored 57 goals. Iniesta was a legendary player during Barça's best period in their history, winning 32 trophies, including playing a key role in four Champions League triumphs (2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015), plus nine Liga titles and six Copa del Rey wins.

The Spaniard won individual awards too, such as UEFA best player in 2012. He came second in the 2010 Ballon d'Or award, sharing the podium with Xavi and Messi, then third in the 2012 award. He was also named player of the match in the 2015 Champions League final.
