President Joan Laporta was naturally delighted to witness how his team won the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday with a 3-1 victory against Real Madrid. "Xavi is a wonderful coach" he said. "I am sure he'll triumph here because he has so much knowledge and personality."

"This is a very special title because it's the first of a new era. The first one always tastes nice. We have an extraordinary young generation of players. Gavi deserved to get the MVP, but the win was thanks to the whole team."

He also congratulated the Spanish Federation on such a well-organised competition that had been running from Wednesday through Sunday in Saudi Arabia.
