Piqué describes his 'spectacular' farewell

In a Twitch interview with Ibai Llanos, centre-back discusses his departure from FC Barcelona

Gerard Piqué decided to use a Twitch interview with one of Spain's most popular media personalities, Ibai Llanos, to talk about what he calls "a spectacular farewell on Saturday ... I wasn't expecting what happened, I didn't think it was that important and I am so grateful for such a goodbye, although I will continue to be associated to the club. I am leaving very happy. I have always felt loved because I have always been one more Barça fan."

He also discussed his reasons for retiring. “There were a lot of things to think about as the season progressed" he said. "It started with a meeting I had with the boss where he told me it was going to hard for me to get games this season. I tried to give it a go because the year before I had played all the time. But the feelings weren't the best and the World Cup break was the best time to make such a decision. I had always said that as soon as I stopped feeling useful that I would leave.”

“The fact that there were injuries in my position meant I put off the decision. I hadn't played against Valladolid and Elche and I didn't feel part of it going to train the next day. After one of those games I was on the point of going into the dressing room and saying that it was all over. I just didn't feel like it was the place for me. But then the injuries came and I told myself that I couldn't leave the team in the lurch, so I set the World Cup break as my deadline."
