Sergio Busquets is not known for scoring goals, that’s not the job expected of him, but of late he’s been remarkably prolific at finding the net.
With Sunday’s goal against Mallorca, just five games after scoring against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League, he has taken his overall total to 18 goals in his total of 677 for FC Barcelona. 11 of those were scored in the league, one in the Copa del Rey and the other six in European competitions.
After also scoring against Celta in November, the midfielder has taken his total for 2021/22 up to three, equalling his record tallies of 2008/09 and 2013/14. And he still has four more games in which to beat his record.
The curious thing about his goal against Mallorca, which established a two-goal cushion that meant Barça could go into the final minutes with a certain amount of ease, was that it came off his left foot.
It was the first time he’d scored with his weaker foot since netting the winner on 20 November 2014 at Mestalla, home of Valencia.
Oddly enough, however, in total Sergio has actually as many goals with his left (7) as he has with his right (7). The other four were headers.
