The year 2021 is turning out to be a prolific one for Memphis. The Barça striker became the player to score most goals in a calendar year for the Netherlands after his his hat trick in the 6-0 win over Gibraltar brought his total up to an eye watering 14 for the year.
Memphis takes the record from another Dutchman who wore the Barça shirt, Patrick Kluivert, who scored 12 goals for the national side in the year 2000.
Top scorer in European World Cup qualifying
The latest hat trick from the Barça striker places him at the head of the scoring charts in World Cup qualification in the UEFA zone ahead of Serbia's Aleksander Mitrovic and Israel's Eran Zahavi.
With two games still to play, the FC Barcelona star is in pole position to top the UEFA goalscoring table for qualification for the tournament in Qatar, and is just four short of outright leader Ali Mabkhout (UAE), who has played considerably more games.

With three assists and two goals in this international break, Memphis has been involved in 49 goals in 2021 (three goals and once assists for FC Barcelona), ranking him only behind Robert Lewandowski (58), Leo Messi (52) and Erling Haaland (51).
And with some big games against Valencia this Sunday at 9.00pm CEST), Dynamo Kyiv (20 October at 6.45pm CEST) and Real Madrid (24 October at 4.45pm CEST), he has plenty of opportunities to add to that tally in the coming days
