The Barça forward equals the record held by Kluivert since 2000
Memphis is going through a very purple patch. After signing this summer, he has become a key member of the FC Barcelona attack, cementing the same role in the Dutch national team.
In fact, during the current international window he scored five goals - three against Turkey and two against Montenegro. This means he has now scored 12 goals in a calendar year for the national team.
Although some matches are still to be played before the end of year, it is already a new record for the Oranje as no one has scored the same amount since 2000, when ex-Barça striker, Patrick Kluivert, scored 12 goals.
The other players that Memphis surpassed with his hat-trick against Turkey during the World Cup qualification group match are Huntelaar (2010; 11 goals), Van Persie (2013; 10 goals) and Bakhuys (1934; 10 goals).
Further proof of Memphis’ confidence is that he is the forward with the most strikes on goal from any national team with 30.
