Barça defender short-listed for the biggest individual accolade in American soccer

The United States Soccer Federation has announced the players in the running for the US Soccer Player of the Year award, and Sergiño Dest of FC Barcelona is there on the list together with Tyler Adams (RB Leipzig), Weston McKennie (Juventus), Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders), Christian Pulisic (Chelsea) and Gyasi Zardes (Columbus Crew).

Dest is opting for the senior award for the first time, although he previously won Young Player of the Year 2019. The only previous winner in contention is Pulisic (2017 and 2019), while McKennie and Morris are there for the third time, never having actually won. Adams and Zardes are also first-time nominees.

Votes are collected from Men’s, Women's and Youth National Team head coaches and staff, National Team players who have earned a cap during the calendar year, Major League Soccer, North American Soccer League, United Soccer League and National Women's Soccer League head coaches, as well as select former players, administrators and media members.
