Barça Atlètic’s survival hopes took a major dent as they stumbled to a 2-0 defeat at home to Amorebieta, bringing an end to a promising run of three wins in four. With four matches left, Sergi Milà’s side now sit five points adrift of safety. Safe, but not safe enough.

Frustrations from the off

The reserves dominated early possession, trying to pick apart a deep-lying Amorebieta. They thought they’d found the breakthrough when Cedric and Jan Virgili combined beautifully, only for a dubious offside call to deny them. Cedric continued to look lively, but Barça couldn’t turn possession into goals.

Just as they were building momentum, the sucker punch came. Amelibia rose highest at a corner to nod the visitors ahead on 35 minutes, giving the Basques a lead to defend. And defend they did, while still threatening on the counter.

Frustration

Barça pushed for an equaliser after the break, carving out chances with renewed urgency. Virgili forced a fine save, but the hosts couldn’t find a way past the stubborn Amorebieta rearguard. Instead, it was Iñigo Muñoz who struck at the other end, burying Barça with a ruthless second midway through the half.

Despite a spirited effort, the blaugranes were left empty-handed — their finishing woes proving costly. The result halts their recent resurgence and leaves them needing a major lift ahead of their crucial trip to Lugo on 4 May.
