Atlético Baleares 3–2 Barça Atlètic: A tough blow

Despite turning around an early goal by the home side, two late goals means a frustrating defeat for the reserves

Sunday brought a frustrating defeat for Barça Atlètic. Although Rafa Márquez's side looked consistently good for 70 minutes at Atlético Baleares, and had worked their way into the lead with goals from Txus Alba and Víctor Barberà, they ended up conceding two goals in quick succession and are coming home empty handed.

After two defeats on the road, they now return to the Estadi Johan Cruyff for the derby with CE Sabadell next week.

Barça had dominated the early throes of the game and probably deserved to be ahead, but ended up going one down after Carbonell turned a corner into his own net, the first time the home side had looked anywhere close to scoring. The remainder of the first half was also something of a monologue of possession and chances for the Barça reserves, but it was all to no avail.

And so it continued after the break, with local stopper Réné making some impressive saves, especially off Juanda and Txus Alba, but still the scoreline wouldn't budge until Txus Alba pounced on a misjudged pass in the home defence and finally got Barça back on level terms.

The game suddenly burst into life and there were chances at both ends before Victor Barberà added a second and it looked like things were finally on course for three hard earned but thoroughly deserved points.

But having done the hardest part and mounted a comeback, the game entered an even crazier phase than ever, and with both sides looking to add more goals it was Atlético Baleares that suddenly found new strength and bounced back with goals from Dioni and Miguelete in the space of just three minutes.
