First training session for Barça B

First training session for Barça B

After medicals, Sergio Barjuan's squad carry out their first preseason session on Tuesday at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper

Barça B have got their 2021/22 preseason under way following medicals on Monday. Sergi Barjuan's squad carried out their first session of the campaign at the Ciutat Esportiva ahead of the official start of the season at the end of August.

In the first session coach Sergi Barjuan has under his command the available players from Barça B plus a group from the U19 squad (Txus Alba, Marc Casadó, Arnau Casas, Miki Juanola, Moussa N’diaye, Arnau Rafús and Arnau Solà). Several players from the B squad have started preseason training with the first team with Arnau Comas, Arnau Tenas, Nico González, Yusuf Demir and U19 squad member Pablo Páez ‘Gavi’ all working with Ronald Koeman.

A look ahead to 2020/21

Before the session Sergi Barjuan spoke to Barça TV about preseason and objectives for the new campaign: "The aims of all the teams at the Club is to train players and give them a chance to progress. We have to help them improve on a day to day basis and show them they have a chance to move up. We know it is difficult but it is the job we have to do."

With regards to the players training with the first team, he added: "It's important for them but they have to that this is a reward and they have to show why they are spending preseason with the first team, and know that their team is Barça B. They have to take advantage of the chance and work hard to keep their place."

“The new Primera RFEF is like Division 2A but not quite as high a level because it doesn’t cover the whole of Spain. But it’s a very competitive league, starting with the three teams that came down from the second division, there are some strong teams down south like UCAM, other reserve teams. I think our group is more competitive than the other one.”

“I wanted to be surrounded by people who know the club and the level. There have been a lot of changes since I left the U19B team and I needed some help. I made the club aware of that from day one and they’ve been very understanding in that respect.”

“The new players need to adapt, especially to our style and to learn the club’s values and become competitive. The team needs to be solid and cohesive. That’s the idea I am trying to get across to the players.”
