The visitors deserved more against an effective Villarreal side, but lacked a finishing touch in front of goal
Barça B played a great game against Villarreal, but it was the latter who were much more effective in front of goal. The defeat places the visitors seven points off the play-offs, waiting to see what Hercules and Cornellà do. Monchu made his debut as a Barça striker and scored a great long-range goal.
Level at the break
Simón's early goal ensured that Barça had to come out and attack, and this they did with aplomb. They'd already had a couple of chances saved before Monchu let fly from distance. His sensational strike meant the teams went in level at the break and the Blaugrana could face the second half with confidence.
The circulation of the ball was much more fluid, and in the 52nd minute of the match Abel Ruiz had a clear opportunity after a pass from Merveil, but he was unable to capitalise. McGuane then skimmed the post in the 72nd minute. Just six minutes later, a mistake in the area saw Simón grab what would prove to be the winner, Wague and Mujica unlucky not to equalise in added time.
The Catalans are next in action in the derby against Espanyol B on Sunday, March 17, at 12.00pm CET in the Miniestadi.
