The Spanish Government’s Minister for Equality, Ana Redondo, visited FC Barcelona’s facilities on Thursday, where she met with a club delegation led by Vice-President for Institutional Affairs Elena Fort. The aim of the visit was to gain first-hand insight into the women’s football project and other initiatives undertaken by FC Barcelona to promote gender equality in sport and across society as a whole.

Alongside Fort, the meeting was also attended on behalf of the club by Dr. Marta Segú, Director of the Barça Foundation, together with Manana Giorgadze, Head of the Presidential Cabinet, and Maite Laporta, Head of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Department.

The discussions highlighted the commitment to continue strengthening women’s sport in general and women’s football in particular, and underlined how the team and its successes, both on and off the pitch, have become a benchmark for driving this commitment forward, despite the challenges posed by the industry. In this regard, Fort stressed, for example, how the fair play regulations in national competitions can affect the investment that clubs like Barça are able to make to improve their teams.

The club also outlined for the Minister the global projects led by the Barça Foundation as a tool for promoting gender inclusion, as well as the creation of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Department, a pioneering initiative in the Spanish sporting world.
