Barça Games, the first video game platform in the world created by a sports club, has been presented today in line with the Club’s objective of launching initiatives to create, in the long term, a digitial space where culers can interact in a way previously unimaginable. The platform is borne out of a collaboration between FC Barcelona, Mas Ros Media and FireSPORTS and users will have access to a series of activities that will promote interaction with other fans. The launch of the new platform forms part of the Club’s aim to create digital content for entertainment, together with the mission to approach new audiences and reach new generations of fans.
The presentation of the Barça Games, whose launch is expected in April of 2024, took place at the Barça Immersive Tour, in the biggest immersive room in Europe in a sporting museum, and was attended by the FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta as well as Marcos Santana, the founder of Mas Ros Media and Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes, founder and CEO of FiReSPORTS.
Joan Laporta: “Barça Games is a reply to the Club’s wish to continue to be leading in terms of new opportunities and to aid the construction of the Digital Espai Barça.”
“The creation of the Barça Games platform is a reply to the Club’s wish to continue to be leading in terms of new opportunities and to aid the construction of the Digital Espai Barça, bringing together in a single digital community all those Barça fans we have around the world and strengthening their sense of belonging to FC Barcelona,” said Joan Laporta in a speech that centred on the Club’s leadership in the digital arena and in which, in 2022, and for the second consecutive year, the Club generated most engagement with its fans (more than 1.4 million interactions) on a global scale, consolidating its position as the most followed sporting entity on social media with more than 400 million followers.
Sport and video games together in a single platform
Marcos Santana, the founder of Mas Ros Media, in his speech highlights the “appearance of broadband fragmented entertainment completely, sport and video games became together leaders in the sector,” adding that Barça Games “represents both in one platform and under the Barça brand, one of the most important and relevant in sport in the entire world.”
For his part, Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes, founder and CEO of FiReSPORTS, predicted: “Barça Games will become a dream for the most important brands in the world because it will allow them to connect with one of the most complex and difficult audiences to reach, via creative, sophisticated and unique formats from the world-famous FC Barcelona.”
A virtual Masia for Barça fan gamers
The platform is currently in development but in the next few months there will be announcement and events that will give an indication of the reach of the project that unites traditional sport with gaming and sports. As the expected launch date approaches, more details will be released, however, at the presentation there was a look ahead to the various activities that will be on offer to users on the platform. Listening to music on Spotify, playing their favourite video games, taking part in tournaments, socialising with other fans, access to an exclusive store to buy Barça Games t-shirts as well as tickets for concerts and sporting events. Currently, you can reserve your gamer pass here.
Barça Games will offer contents on demand, promoting an interactive digital community around FC Barcelona and accessible to fans all over the world. Furthermore, and thanks to the various ways of using the platform, users will be able to accumulate points that will allow them to become part of the Virtual Masia, a unique and world-famous place that has produced some of the most important players in FC Barcelona history, and that will now have a digital version. As such, the Virtual Masia will have as its aim to develop gamers, both professionals and occasional users, and to promote educational ideas via forms such as streaming, broadcasting, production and social media management.
