‘Matchday’ premieres in India on Discovery Plus

Matchday is released in India through first real-life entertainment streaming application in the nation- Discovery Plus. The documentary series created by Barça Studios, includes previously unseen footage of the first team’s day-to-day lives.

Fans can enjoy eight 45-minute episodes centred around eight key games played in the 2018/2019 season. TV cameras were given unprecedented access to the first team’s dressing room to record everyday moments in the lives of players such as Leo Messi, Marc-André ter Stegen, Gerard Piqué, Philippe Coutinho or Clément Lenglet.

The series is narrated by Academy Award Nominee John Malkovich. Among the key events of the 2018/19 season covered throughout the different episodes is El Clásico, the subject of two episodes showing how players prepare for the match, how they handle the pressure of this important event and their experience of the 90 minutes on the field of play. Specifically, the series covers the game at the Camp Nou won 5-1 by Barça, as well as the Copa del Rey match at the Santiago Bernabéu that ended 0-3. However, the other side of the game is reflected in another episode, showing the disappointment after the Champions League game against Liverpool at Anfield and Barça's elimination from the competition 

A Barça Studios Production

Matchday is production of Barça Studios, which centralises the creation, production and commercialisation of all of FC Barcelona’s audiovisual content, with the collaboration of Rakuten. The series was produced in conjunction with Kosmos Studios and Producciones del Barrio.

Matchday was launched last November 29 in Japan and Europe on the Rakuten TV video-on-demand service, and the company also holds the right for broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) and United States. Besides, the series debuted on Netflix last April in Latin America and Canada.
