It proved to be a very special morning for Willy Hernangómez at Hospital de Sant Pau. The blaugrana player visited the Paediatric Surgery Unit at the Barcelona hospital and saw for himself how the Multidisciplinary Parental Presence Protocol works. The initiative enables parents and legal guardians to be with children in the operating theatre up to when the anaesthetic is induced, providing them with emotional support during a particularly delicate moment and ensuring a warm and safe atmosphere throughout the process. The children who were in for an operation during the visit went into the operating theatre on an electric vehicle accompanied by Willy Hernangómez.
The blaugrana player's desire to participate in this project arose after an initial visit in December as part of the FC Barcelona Foundation “Christmas all year round” project. The player has a strong desire to participate in Club Foundation activities and he is also ambassador for the EuroLeague One Team project, and he made a point of saying that "being able to make these visits is very special, because just a small gesture can bring a smile to children at a difficult time". "The great work done by all the healthcare professionals at the hospital has really taken me aback", he concluded.
The blaugrana centre also visited the Sant Pau Paediatric Department Day Unit, where he met with hospitalised children and their families, having photos taken, signing autographs, spending time with the children and telling stories.
