Olympiacos 77-70 Barça: EuroLeague run ends in Piraeus

Barça started strongly, but Olympiacos came back in the second, before coming through to close out the game in the final quarter

Two league leaders going head-to-head promised much on paper and the game at  the Peace and Friendship stadium in Piraeus didn't disappoint. Barça were wearing gold and got off to a great start, but the five game winning run in the EuroLeague was ended by Olympiacos, who saw the game out to win 77-70.

Barça set the pace but Olympiacos come back

An inaccurate start to the first quarter from both sides, but points for top scorer Mirotic and assists by Nico Laprovittola saw Barça take an 11-20 lead into the second.

However, Olympiacos managed to score 12 without reply as the Catalans were proving inaccurate with three pointers and from the free throw line, allowing the Greek side to edge 29-27 ahead at the break, McKissic scoring a three pointer on the buzzer.

Fightback in the third but run ended in the fourth

The break seemed to focus Barça, Laprovittola (2) and Kalinic scoring three pointers early on in the third, but it still wasn't enough to overcome a persistent Olympiacos who led 50-45 going into the final quarter.

Laprovittola and Higgins scored three pointers to bring the Catalans to within two, before Higgins made it 66-63 with three minutes to go. However, Olympiacos had enough to see out the game, including former Barça man Vezenkov scoring a long range three pointer with two minutes to go for a seven point lead that remained at the buzzer, final score 77-70.

Next up for Barça a tough match to get right back on track away to Fenerbahce (Friday 10 March, 6:45pm CET).
