Red Star 69-76 Barça: Victory in Belgrade

Serbs come back from behind several times but the Catalans hold on for another impressive EuroLeague win

Barça defeated Red Star Belgrade 69-76 largely on the basis of some top 3-point converting and a stellar performance from Nigel Hayes-Davis (14 points, eight rebounds and three assists). The seventh consecutive win in the EuroLeague leaves the team top of the regular season table.

The win always looked on the cards after the Catalans went +11 at one stage in the first period, which eventually ended 13-20.

But both defensively and offensively, there was an improvement from the Serbs in the second. A 10-2 streak changed the whole shape of things and with Barça only managing 14 points in the second period, their lead was cut to just three by the break

It was then that we saw the very best of Hayes-Davis, whose threes together with Roland Smits finally got the blaugrana back into a meaningful lead, going into the final period 49-61.

The heated atmosphere in the Pionir drove the home side towards a late charge. From trailing by double figures Red Star managed to fight back to within three. It took some fine Barça defence to hold off the stampede, and a Kuric three with 30 seconds left finally secured victory.
