Agreements reached by FC Barcelona's Board of Directors

The Board met in an ordinary session and approved the deal with UEFA over 'estelades' flags, condemned Espanyol's offensive behaviour, and aproved 212 season ticket holders from the waiting list

FC Barcelona's Board of Directors have come to the following agreements following an ordinary session on Monday evening at the Camp Nou's installations:

Agreement approved with UEFA for the exhibition of 'estelada' flags

The Board of Directors has approved the agreement reached with the leading figures in UEFA over the presence of 'estelada' flags in various Champions League games. In light of this deal, FC Barcelona have withdrawn their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) contesting the sanctions imposed following the presence of the flags. The Club recognises that according to the current rules the disciplinary organs have little margin with which to interpret the prohibition of political messages at football games.

At the same time, UEFA acknowledges that the rules can't be set in stone and that they could evolve to reflect the reality of the society we live in where freedom of expression is a right that has to be defended and guaranteed. UEFA don't want football games to be used for political statements but it also doesn't want to sanction any club or federation for situations in which no reasonable person would be opposed to.

Consequently, UEFA is inclined to re-examine the scope of the current disciplinary rulebook in order to make sure that sanctions are only given in cases in which common sense indicates it should. UEFA will create a working group in which clubs and federations will take part in order to review the current rules and come up with recommendations.

Concerning the open cases Barça has after home Champions League games against BATE Boríssov and AC Roma in 2015/16, UEFA and the Club will follow a special procedure to resolve the issue in a mutually satisfactory manner.

The Board of Directors is happy with the UEFA deal as it brings an end to the conflict and recognises the right to freedom of expression for the Club's members and fans who have always defended Barça.

Offensive behaviour condemned

The Board of Directors condemns the offensive chants and the banner displayed at the Camp Nou yesterday against RCD Espanyol which contravenes the animation terrace's rules on behaviour.

The Club, which is in permanent dialogue with the animation groups and has spoken to them in order to analyse what occurred at the stadium in the coming days. Together they need to make sure there are consequences for the actions and that they are not repeated in the future.

In fact, these actions are not the first incident. In the last game against Real Madrid played at the Camp Nou there were offensive chants directed at the rival. Following these incidents the animation groups opened four disciplinary records following consultaiton with the Club and the Mossos d’Esquadra. Three of the people ended up being permanently banned from the animation terrace and the remaining person was banned for three games.

The project has been running since the start of the season and its objective is to promote peaceful animation which is respectful and tolerant and so far the animation terrace has obtained a high degree of satisfaction amongst its users.

212 new season tickets for members on the waiting list

The Board of Directors has approved the transfer of 212 season tickets from the members who have given them up due to non-payment to new season ticket holders taken from the members' waiting list. The new holders will be able to use their new season tickets the following season.

These 212 season tickets have been added to the 1,926 which have been periodically assigned to those members on the waiting list since the 2011/12 season and this decision highlights the Board's commitment to all members.
