Georgios Bartzokas

Georgios Bartzokas’s first professional coaching position was with Olimpia Larissa in his native Greece in 2006, where he was in charge for three years. He then left for two years at Maroussi BC from 2009, and after that really made the big time when giving the orders at Panionios. He caught the eye of Olympiacos and was coach at that club from 2012 to 2014.

Before arriving at FC Barcelona Lassa he was at Lokomotiv Kuban of Russia in the  2015/16 season, his first foreign position. He led the side to the best defensive record of the 2015/16 Euroleague, in which his side lost to their compatriots and eventual champion CSKA 88-81 in the semi-final. To date, the Greek coach has a 60% win rate in Euroleague games (69-38).

His greatest achievement was winning the Euroleague with Olympiacos in London in 2013, coming from 17 points behind to beat Real Madrid in the final and thus becoming the first man from his country to coach a club to the coveted title. He was named European Coach of the Year in 2013 and also won a FIBA Intercontinental in his time at Olympiacos.
