The FC Barcelona Women’s team are looking to win their first game of the season this Saturday. The Azulgranas will face Rayo Vallecano (12.00, Barça TV) after a fairly difficult week. This past Sunday, the team lost 2-0 in their Liga opener to Espanyol. Three days later, the players were unable to overcome the reigning European champions, Olympique Lyon, (3-0). In between the two matches, the team was hit with terrible news: the death of 20-year-old Anna Soler, ex-FCB Women’s team player.

Rayo start season off with a win

This weekend’s match against Rayo could bring Xavi Llorens’ player their first points of the season, but it won’t be easy. Rayo won its first game of the season in spectacular fashion by beating Real Sociedad by 4 to 3. This weekend’s match will the be penultimate game before one of the biggest fixtures of the season: the team’s debut in the Champions League.

The team didn’t play at its usual high level in the past two matches. In Lyon, despite missing four international players, the team fell apart in the second half and conceded three goals after a fairly even first half that ended in 0-0.
