Eusebio Sacristán’s men will kick off their 2012/13 Segunda División campaign this Saturday at the Miniestadi at 19.00. Barça B’s opening match of the season will be against one of the most storied teams in Segunda, Almería.

Prepared for the challenge

With a team that has let some players go and brought in others, the reserve side has put in an excellent pre-season; two victories - 0-2 over Palamós and Huddersfield Town - and two draws - 1-1 with Logroñés and 2-2 with Bolton. The Azulgranas remained undefeated throughout the summer, a remarkable feat considering the opposition they went up against.

The manager of the reserve side, Eusebio Sacristán, defined Almería as “a team that will be very close to the top of the table, a team that want to get back to Primera.” For this reason, the manager noted that if his men want to win Saturday’s three points that they’ll have to “be 100% concentrated” on the match.

Kiko, Ayala and Ié set to miss the match

Barça B will be without three players for the inaugural match of the season. Kiko Femenía and Ayala are recovering from ankle injuries, and the Portuguese Edgar Ié is recovering from surgery.

Almería, on form

The Andalusians, on the other hand, have brought in a couple excellent players ahead of the new season. Javi Casquero, ex-Getafe player, and Álvaro Mejía, ex-Real Madrid, both have top flight experience. In addition to the two Spaniards, Almería sealed the deal for the Brazilian forward Charles, who played for Córdoba last season.

Javi García’s men played five friendlies this summer and won all of them: 1-3 over Elche, 3-0 over Levante, 4-1 over Murcia, 5-0 over Águilas and 1-0 over Cartagena.

This Saturday, Barça B will start its third season in the Liga Adelante, and they’re doing it at home, at the Miniestadi against Almería, one of the favourites to win promotion at the end of the season. The first three points are in play and the reserve side want to make sure that they stay in Barcelona.

Ticket prices for this Saturday's match

Ticket prices for the match against Almería start at five euros. Free entry for FC Barcelona members and children under the age of 12.
