This Wednesday, January 4 of 2012, will go down in history as the day that smoking was banned in all FC Barcelona facilities. The decision, ratified in the last General Assembly, was respected during the match against Osasuna by Club members and supporters. After an intense informational campaign, much less smoke was seen this Wednesday at the Camp Nou.

“It’s a very favourable initiative. Barça must also be more than a club when it comes to questions of health. In the games against Zaragoza and Rayo we had a very good feeling about it (the anti-smoking campaign),” said Eduard Coll, FC Barcelona director and president of the Discipline Committee.

The FC Barcelona employees were charged with enforcing the new no-smoking ordinance at the stadium on Wednesday. In the event of a smoking infraction, the employees would ask the supporter to cease smoking or leave the stadium. Cuello adds, “the members are aware of the situation and they’ve demonstrated once again the Clué common sense, and the seny Catalan (Catalan feeling).”

The main objectives of the ‘Barça without smoke’ campaign are to protect and ensure the health of all the fans that attend the stadium and to help smokers kick the habit. “We are convinced, knowing what Barça members are like, that they will quit smoking,” concluded Coll.
