FC Barcelona Lassa handball had to demonstrate just how much talent they have in order to pull out a big, much-deserved win in a complicated match in which the team's tactical intelligence along with the quality of some of their individual players were enormous factors as well, allowing them to claim an important 31–30 victory in the first round of the first stage of the VELUX EHF Champions League, a win which puts them at the top of group.

Wael Jallouz led the Catalans with 12 goals and was the player of the game for the team led by head coach Xavi Pascual. Victor Tomás added three goals, the first of which saw him reach a milestone of 500 career goals in the Champions League.
