FC Barcelona’s Handball team face one of the season’s most impressive teams,  SG Flensburg-Handewitt for a place in the final of the VELUX EHF FINAL FOUR this Saturday evening in Cologne.

First objective achieved

Getting to the Final Four was one of Xavi Pascual’s team’s objectives this season and now they are here they are determined to go one step further and reach the final itself. The coach can count on his full squad of 16 players for the game, which is sure to be a tough test of both the team’s skill and attitude in front of what promises to be a hostile German crowd, but as they showed in their fight back against  Rhein Neckar Löwen, this is a side full of character and determination.

First Final Four for opponents

SG Flensburg-Handewitt are in their first ever European Final Four and their quarter final win over the Macedonian side Vardar was another example of the consistently good season they have enjoyed. Coach Pascual has stressed the Germans’ defensive strengths, their good keeper and their creativity in attack.

The Danish winger Anders Eggert is the team’s big threat and is their leading scorer in Europe with 65 goals this season, whilst his compatriot Michael Knudsen is a veteran pivot who has helped create a sold block for coach Vranjes

Keeper Mattias Andersson, who played for Barça in the 200/01 season, is a defensive wall for the Germans, who will need to keep their cool in front of the home crowd, knowing that they go into the game as underdogs.
