The Asobal Gala was hosted in a meeting hall adjacent to the Retiro Park in Madrid. Pep Plaza, Catalan actor and comedian – who’s known for his work on Catalonia Television’s Crackovia –, was the Master of Ceremonies as the best players of last season were awarded for their achievements.

Saric named best keeper

Danjel Saric’s excellent work in FC Barcelona Intersport’s goal was recognised this evening in Madrid. For the second consecutive year, Saric was given the trophy that distinguishes him as the best keeper of the Asobal League.

Sarid is the second keeper in the history of the Club who has won this award. David Barrufet, who wore the number 16 when he played for Barça, also claimed the prize twice.

FC Barcelona’s Swedish pivot, Magnus Jernemyr was named the best defender of the 2011/12 season. The 36-year-old Swedish international continues to be essential in Xavi Pascual’s defensive line. Jernemyr also won the silver medal in this summer’s Olympics.

Most matches played

Siarhei Rutenka was officially recognized for being the player that played the most amount of games last season. In total he played 36 matches: 30 games in the League, 1 in the Super Cup, 2 in the Asobal Cup and 3 in the Copa del Rey.

The player compliments his consistency with goals. Rutenka also finished the 2011/12 season as FC Barcelona’s highest goalscorer, with 146 goals in the League. He came in fourth in the Asobal League's goalscorer standings.

Stranovsky and Nagy also win awards

One of Barça’s new signings for the upcoming season, Martin Stranovsky, was named the best left forward of the 2011/12 season. Stranovsky played for Ademar León last year.

The ex-Azulgrana, and current MKB Veszprem player, Nagy, was named the best right back of last year’s Asobal competition. Nagy, who was not present at tonight’s Gala, received the award via video.
