Barça Intersport managed to take the points against a very strong Valladolid in an extremely hard-fought match that could be worth a League title. A goal from Viran Morros in the last second of the game gave Xavi Pascual’s men the two decisive points on one of the most difficult courts in the Asobal League. Cuatro Rayas Valladolid never gave up on the game until Morros surfaced as the hero of the match. This win, the fourth of the season against the Valladolid side, allows Barça Intersport to stay two points clear of Atlético Madrid - who also won on Wednesday.

Equal first half

The team led by Juan Carlos Pastor came out onto the court with a clear mission: try to concede fewer goals than the previous three matches against the Barça had (Barça scored a minimum of 28 goals in those games). Barça had won all of them. in the first half, Valladolid imposed their plan; few goals and a lot of intensity on defence. Xavi Pascual’s men were having trouble penetrating the the wall erected by the home side - in fact, Barça was never ahead during this period.

The Azulgranas, however, did adapt to the game and were going toe to toe against the home side until Igropulo was excluded for two minutes and Valladolid went on a 3-0 run (8-6). In three minutes the team had conceded almost the same amount of goals that they gave away in the first 20 minutes, which left them with a unfavorable 10-8 result at the half. Up until this point, Sarmiento, with three goals, was the highest goal scorer.

Brutal reaction in the second half

At the start of the second half the pace grew and Barça Intersport reacted. In a matter of minutes Barça overturned the 10-8 against them to a 14-15. The result forced Pastor to call a timeout. From that point, the game went back to the same dynamic in the first half, both sides were equal in terms of game flow, however, Barça had a tiny advantage.

Nagy was the key man in the second half for Barça. The Hungarian, very active on offence, scored four, almost, consecutive goals that allowed Barça Intersport to reach the final five minutes with a two-goal advantage. Valladolid reacted as the clock was ticking down. With one minute to go, the game was level on 27 goals apiece. It was then, in the last play of the game, in the last second of the match, that Viran Morros claimed the hero’s mantle to score and give Barça Intersport the win. His goal could very well give Barça the title.
