Barça Intersport did what was required against Kadetten in the last Champions League match before the competition’s two month hiatus. Xavi Pascual’s men beat the Swiss champions, who didn’t make it easy, and assured qualification to the Round of 16 with three group stage games still yet to play.

Kadette made it difficult for Barça Alusport. Both sides were equally brilliant on the attack and uncertain on defence in the first half. It wasn’t until five minutes from the break that Barça put some distance in between themselves and the Swiss side.

Rutenka’s power decides

After the break, Barça Intersport’s play was slow moving, and Kedetten took advantage by coming within two goals of the home side with ten to go until the end of the match. Rutenka, who came on in the second half, was decisive in the final stretch of the match allowing Barça to secure both the victory and a Round of 16 berth.

With the Champions League on break until February, Barça will turn its attention to the national competition and their decisive match in Madrid against Atlético, the team that shares the Leagues’ top spot with the Azulgranas.
