1000 games for Juan Carlos Navarro / FCB

From 23 November 1997, when a young player from the youth team made his debut at the Palau against Granada, until this Sunday’s duel against Rio Natura Obradoiro, Juan Carlos Navarro has played a total of 1,000 games in a Barça shirt, a figure only within the grasp of the very few. “I would never have imagined reaching such a figure. I am lucky to have been able to live my passion and to do it at the club of my life,” commented the Barça Lassa number 11.

With his career, leadership, quality on the court, his list of honours and his ability to do the impossible, the Barça captain has won the respect of all and sundry. In his first two seasons, 1997-99, he bounced between the B team and the first team, playing a total of 41 games. The next season he figured in a record 72 matches for Barça, a figure he equalled in the season 2006/07.

Navarro’s game also has developed over the years. With time he has become not just a prolific points scorer but also a creative fulcrum for his team mates. The guard from Sant Feliu on the outskirts of Barcelona still scores heavily as well as providing numerous assists. Just two seasons ago Navarro played in 69 official games and was named MVP of the play off final of the Endesa League.

A dream list of honours

In those 1,000 games there has been plenty of time to build an enviable extensive list of honours. The blaugrana guard has won two Euroleague titles, eight ACB league championships, six Copas del Rey, five Super Cups and one Korac Cup. Not forgetting of course the multiple individual awards, both domestically and in European competition. Navarro is the leading scorer in Euroleague history and Barça top scorer in ACB history as his legend just grows and grows.
