The Copa del Rey is always a thrilling weekend for basketball fans

Barça Lassa have been drawn against Dominion Bilbao Basket in the quarter finals of the Copa del Rey, the mid-season knockout tournament for the sides at the top of the table at the halfway point in the Liga Endesa.

The team coached by Xavi Pascual was one of the seeds in Monday’s draw, and if they can beat the Basques, they’ll get either Valencia Basket or Herbalife Gran Canaria in the semis.

Dominion Bilbao Basket, whose standout players include Àlex Mumbrú and Clevin Hannah, were 9-8 in the first half of the league season. Barça won 66-57 when they met them at the Palau Blaugrana in league play, with Doellman and Ribas particularly impressive.

The draw in the host city, La Coruña, was attended by technical secretary Rodrigo de la Fuente in representation of Barça Lassa. “It was a difficult game against them at the Palau” he commented when he learned who FCB will be meeting first. “We have a lot of respect for them. We hope to be ready for this challenge.”

This will be the 80th edition of the tournament, and it runs from February 18 to 21. Barça have collected the trophy 23 times, and six times this century.
