Xavi Pascual has extended his contract as the coach of the Barça basketball first team until the end of the 2016/17 season. His current contract was set to run out at the end of this season, but now he has pledged himself to the blaugranes for another two seasons at least. Josep M.Bartomeu, the President of FC Barcelona, and the sporting director of the basketball section Joan Creus accompanied Xavi Pascual as he put pen to paper on his new contract. The contract renewal was announced back in December and now has finally been made official.

More than 500 games in charge

Since arriving at the club in February 2008, Xavi Pascual has led the side in a total of 513 matches, only Aíto García Reneses is now ahead of him in the all time list of coaches with most matches. Of those 513 games, 300 have come in the Endesa League and 11 trophies have been won since he took over, the highlights being four ACB leagues and the Euroleague title in 2010.

With Pascual, Barça have won 233 of those 300 matches in the league, whilst in Europe he has coached the side in 170 encounters, winning 135 times, a success rate of more than 80%.

It is worth remembering that every complete season with Xavi Pascual has been accompanied by a trophy as well as reaching the last 16 ACB finals, an historic achievement that explains the level of competitiveness involved in the sides that he coaches.
