The agreement, plus the main outlines of the new basketball project, will be fully explained at a press conference on 28th September by the board member responsible for basketball, Joan Bladé, and FC Barcelona Regal technical director Joan Creus, when both sides will also put pen to paper.

Banking on continuity

Xavi Pascual, 40, took over from Dusko Ivanovic on 14th February 2008 and has enjoyed a continuous run of success as coach of Barça Regal. In 2007/08, he took the team to the ACB final and the following year became the youngest coach to win the league, defeating TAU Vitoria in the final. It was his first trophy as Barça coach.
In the next season, 2009/10, FCB Regal went on to win four of the five trophies up for grabs –Euro League, Kings Cup, Super Cup and Catalan League – only the Endesa League slipping through their fingers. In Paris, Pascual’s men lifted the Club’s second Euro League trophy.

12 out of 22 trophies

The winning run continued in the 2010/11 season. Barça Regal retained their titles in the Kings Cup, the Super Cup and the Catalan league and capped off a great season by defeating Bizkaia Bilbao in the final of the Endesa League. Last season, the team added three more triumphs. At the start of the campaign they won the Endesa Super Cup and the Catalan league, and then went on to take the Endesa League after staging a memorable comeback from 1-2 down in the final against Real Madrid.

In addition to the quality of the basketball practiced by his team, Xavi Pascual has won an astonishing 12 of the 22 trophies possible since he took over, in the process leading his players into 18 of a possible 22 final phrases. The architect of this success is still leading the way.
