Olympiacos-FCB Regal

From Paris to Istanbul – Olympiacos and FC Barccelona are set to meet once more in a Euroleague Final Four, but this time, unlike two years ago, it’s in the semis rather than the final itself. Barça will be looking to make their eighth European Cup Final and take the trophy for the third time. The Greeks for their part, are chasing their second trophy after winning their first 15 years ago – against Barça in the final. This is a European classic and a deluxe semi-final.

Sweating on Navarro

Barça are enjoying perhaps their best form of the season going into the weekend, following some big wins and spectacular performances that have taken them to the top of the ACB with three wins more than the second placed team. However, for what is their third Final Four in four years, the team do have a couple of worries.

The first is the fitness of their captain Juan Carlos Navarro, who is again suffering from a foot problem, whilst Boniface Ndong has had an upset stomach and it’s not yet clear if he will be available.

18 wins in 19 Euroleague games so far

Those doubts haven’t affected the team’s morale though and there is plenty to be optimistic about as the team has the best defensive record and has a record of 18 wins and a single defeat in the competition so far.

Marcelinho, Rabaseda, Perovic, Ingles and Wallace will be making their debuts in a Final Four, should they play, whilst Navarro will be making Club history with his sixth appearance.

Big upset in quarter finals

Olympiakos caused probably the biggest upset of the tournament by beating Montepaschi 1-3 in the quarter finals after a poor start to the competition and they have a well balanced squad with both younger players and more experienced pros in their ranks. Just like Barça, DusanIvkovic’s team come into this game on a good run of form.
