Juan Carlos Navarro is still making history in the Liga Endesa. This year’s final series against Real Madrid will be the tenth for the Barça Regal captain. “I am very happy to reach this figure. I didn’t know. I’m full of pride. It is hard to stay at the top for so many years and playing finals is even harder still. That shows how consistent Barça Regal has been and that we are not based on any one player. I hope this final ends like the last. That would be very special”, said an ambitious Navarro.

Out of nine previous attempts, he has won six (1998/99, 2000/01, 2002/03, 2003/04, 2008/09 and 2010/11) and needs just one more title to equal the seven of Andrés Jiménez and Ferran Martínez in the ACB era. In the former Liga Nacional, Luyk won 14 and Corbalán, 12. Navarro was also named MVP in his last two final appearances. “Those are personal awards that might thrill me, but I will appreciate them more once I’ve retired. It is more important that we won six leagues during this period. What the Club wins is more important than anything else”.

The Barça number 11 will therefore have played in 10 of the 22 ACB Finals to date that have involved FC Barcelona. The first, in 1998/99, was against Caja San Fernando of Seville. The last, at least for the time being, is the current edition against Real Madrid. Navarro believes home court advantage could be the crucial factor. “If we win our home games, we’ll be champions. We need the fans’ support. We’ll be stronger with their help at important moments. We want to feel their support and for the opposition to sense it. A heated atmosphere at the Palau is second to none”.
