The Barça womens' team are still well clear at the top of the Superliga despite Saturday’s defeat at home to third placed Valencia.

On a cold and windy morning the first half saw intense football from both sides, with so many chances going begging at the two ends of the field that it was amazing that they went in for the break with the game still scoreless.

The second half was just as active, with Barça getting three great chances in the first five minutes and although Mariona did find the net, the referee had spotted an infringement. A minute later, the same player started the move that led to a one-two between Corredera and Alexia and the former finishing the move nicely to put Barça one ahead.

Barça wanted more, but a Garrote handball in the area gave away a penalty that Valencia converted to get back level. A great save from Mariajo shortly before the end prevented Mariona from claiming the winner and then, right at the end, Carol headed home to win the three points for the visitors.

Barça have now been beaten home and away by Valencia in the league, the only blot in what is otherwise a one hundred per cent record.
