Atlético Madrid are still eight points behind Barça at the top of the Liga table. A few hours after the Catalans had beaten Getafe 6-0 on Saturday, Diego Simeone’s side continued their own fine form with a 3-0 win against Deportivo. Saúl, Griezmann and Correa were on target for a side that has a huge Champions League game to come this week. They host PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday after a 0-0 draw from the first leg in Holland.

Real Madrid won 2-1 at Las Palmas in a game that end in dramatic fashion. The side that’s third in the league had led since Sergio Ramos (who was red carded later in the game) scored after 24 minutes. But Willian José pulled the Canary Islanders level with just three minutes to go before Casemiro grabbed a last-gasp winner for Madrid.

Next up in the league for Barcelona is a visit to Villarreal on Sunday. The ‘yellow submarine’ remain fourth in the table after losing 4-2 in a dramatic game away to Barça’s Copa del Rey Final opponent, sixth placed Sevilla.

Iborra put Sevilla 1-0 up after 23 minutes, but two goals from Bakambu meant Villarreal would be leading at half-time. Then a Victor Ruiz own goal and an absolute scorcher from Konoplyankis swung the game back in favour of the Andalusians in the second half, and Reyes finished off the job with an injury time fourth for Sevilla.

Before they face Barça, Villarreal will be travelling to Germany for the second leg of their Europa League last sixteen tie with Bayer Leverkusen, where they’ll be taking a 2-0 lead from the first leg at El Madrigal.

Arsenal stung by Hornets

Barça’s Champions League last sixteen opponent Arsenal’s bid to become the first team since the 19th century to win the FA Cup three times in a row is over. They were stunned 2-1 at home to Watford in Sunday’s quarter final.

Ighalo and Guedioura put the visitors 2-0 up early in the second half, and there were just two minutes left on the clock when Danny Welbeck pulled one back for the Gunners. The England striker then missed an open goal right at the end, and so Watford will join Crystal Palace, Everton and Manchester United or West Ham in the semi-finals.
