Andrés Iniesta in a press conference in Japan / MIGUEL RUIZ - FCB

For Andrés Iniesta there are no favourites in Sunday’s Club World Cup final in Yokohama between FC Barcelona and River Plate. “The final is 50-50,” he declared in the pre-game press conference in Japan. “We are going into the game with a lot of desire. Two good teams are meeting and we expect a very, very tough game.”

For the Barça midfielder the key to success is Barça’s “idea of the game.” He continued: “The most important thing in football and in life is to have a clear idea and stick with it until the end. The idea of playing and the way of doing things, plus how we believe in it, is what this Club different to the rest.”

As for the presence of Leo Messi, Iniesta was crystal clear: “It seems he is better. It’s everyone’s wish that he can take part, but as of now we still don’t know.” He had words of praise as well for River Plate: “They worry us as a block. I think River Plate are a strong team and they have quality players.”

The Barça number ‘8’ admitted that the team had not yet practiced penalties. “Taking penalties in training is not the same as taking them in a final or at an important moment. I hope the game is decided before that,” rounded off Iniesta.
