Manuel Neuer and Xabi Alonso before the press at Camp Nou / GERMÁN PARGA - FCB

Before the appearance of Pep Guardiola in the press room at Camp Nou, Bayern players Xabi Alonso and Manuel Neuer made themselves available for questions from the gathered media. Both highlighted the qualities of the blaugranes and the importance of getting a valuable away goal in the first leg. Alonso, with extensive experience of playing at Barça’s famous ground thanks to his spells with Real Sociedad and Real Madrid, admitted that this time “it would be very different with Bayern.” The Bayern goalkeeper and German international had plenty of praise for his countryman and opposite number Marc-André ter Stegen.

Below are the highlights of the Xabi Alonso and Manuel Neuer press conference:

Xabi Alonso

“I have played many times at Camp Nou but with Bayern it will be different. I hope we can produce what is expected of us.”

“Guardiola has a lot of feelings towards Barça but there is a lot at stake. There is no greater motivation than a Champions League final.”

“Players missing cannot be an excuse, but it is true that we would have liked to have them available.”

Manuel Neuer

“I always prepare for the game and for the forwards I’ll be up against. With the three strikers Barça have, everything is possible.”

“We want to attack and it will be important to get a goal. The most important thing is attitude, not the system. We won’t come out and defend.”

“Ter Stegen is an excellent keeper, very good with his feet. I have a good relationship with him and wish him the best. He and Bravo are both very good, Barça have never had a bad keeper.”
