Sergi Samper's dreams came true on Wednesday night, making his first appearance for FC Barcelona. And it was a night he won't be forgetting anytime soon.

It was early Wednesday morning when Luis Enrique announced who would be dressing for the match. Samper's name was called. The Barça B midfielder, who has played for the club since he was six years old, was finally getting his shot.

Just before 7.00 PM CET more news came. Samper was designated to start the match, taking over from his idol, Sergio Busquets, a star player who he had been working hard to imitate in recent years.

Passing efficiency

Samper certainly didn't play like someone making his debut. Flawless in the opening minutes, his simple and efficient ball control fit right in with the team's clockwork passing game. He led the team with 107 passes, 98 of which were on target, more than both Alves (101) and Adriano (100).

“I felt very comfortable”

After the game, Samper spoke to the Barça TV programme El Marcador and explained:   “I’m very happy to have made my debut at the Camp Nou in the Champions League. It’s a dream for me and I’m very happy. I felt comfortable playing out there – with these players around you, it’s really easy. I’m very happy to be here and grateful for the confidence shown in me”.

As to the game itself, Sampere explained: “it wasn’t easy, we weren’t as comfortable on the pitch as we had expected. The three points are welcome – it was important to win and that will set us up nicely in terms of confidence”
