[[DES_1]] After the 3-1 victory over Villarreal in the first leg of the Spanish Cup semi-finals, FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué was delighted by the way his team fought against a very combative Villarreal. "The 3-1 score is a good result, but we know that it could have been better," he said. El Madrigal is a difficult place to play so, although the result is favourable, the outcome has yet to be decided,” said the central defender.

Piqué talked about the league match against Villarreal at Camp Nou last week to compare it with Wednesday’s outcome: "The league match was tougher, but today we were been more attentive and it made life easier."

Piqué was a starter for the seventh consecutive game and feels he’s in good form. "I feel very comfortable and happy with how things are going for me, but even more so with the team’s ability to recover quickly after conceding goals,” he said.

He also spoke about his fifth goal of the season, which came off a corner kick. "I knew Messi was going to cross it straight into the area; we understand each other pretty well and we celebrated afterwards." Piqué also praised discussed the defensive approach of Villarreal. "When we play at Camp Nou our rivals always tend to play back a bit more, giving them fewer options to play on the counter. However, when we play away, our opponents play more openly and that gives us a lot more space,” he emphasised.

Andrés Iniesta

“We made a big effort; it was a shame about conceding a goal. The most important thing is that we're 90 minutes away from the final. We'll have to go to Villarreal and put in a complete performance and be switched on in every sense.”

“We know we could have scored more goals, but the chances have to be taken. The result is what it is and we aren't unhappy. The goal was to win and get a good result.”

“El Madrigal [Villarreal’s ground] is a stadium that's demanding. It's a small ground. There's almost a month before the second leg and we have to be happy about the goals.”

“I've always been confident about the team’s performances. It's true that at the moment that team's playing well and when that happens you have to make the most of it and try to improve. What's coming up with two legged ties, requires more than just good moments, we also need to focus on details, and these details are what we have to take advantage of.”
