Middlesbrough knock Man City out of FA Cup

On a day of many shocks in England, FC Barcelona's Champions League opponents lose at home

Manchester City, who entertain Barça on February 24 in the Champions League second round, have crashed out of the FA Cup after losing 2-0 at home to Middlesbrough. There was simply no way through the Championship side’s tight defence and manager Aitor Karanka was able to celebrate an unexpected victory at the home of the Premiership champions.

Patrick Bamford was practically inside the City goal when he tapped in the opener following a collision between Boro’s Adomah and goalkeeper Caballero. Defender Fernando did his best to avoid the goal, but to no avail.

Kun Agüero missed a golden opportunity to pull level in the second half, but the visitors secured the win when former Murcia man Kike grabbed a second in injury time.

The result was one of a series of ‘cupsets’ in the fourth round of the competition, with Chelsea throwing away a 2-0 lead at Stamford Bridge to lose 4-2 to League One side Bradford, and Manchester United being held 0-0 by Cambridge of League Two.
